Mother Of Murder Victim Found In Gary To Person Of Interest: 'Please, Turn Yourself In'

(CBS) – A Chicago mother in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood wonders how her daughter ended up murdered in an abandoned building in Northwest Indiana and is asking a potential suspect to turn himself in.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

The body of Connita Richardson, 17, was found in an abandoned school building in Gary, Ind. earlier this week. Her body was at the former Emerson School for at least a day.

Her mother, Connie, described her daughter as young and full of life.

"My daughter, she was a beautiful girl," she told reporters Thursday evening.

Family members say Connita was visiting her grandfather Sunday when she was picked up by a cousin, never to be heard from again. They've also yet to hear from that cousin.

"Please, please, turn yourself in, man," Connie Richardson said.

With that, family members launched balloons skyward in honor of Connita.

Gary police say the missing relative is a person of interest and would like to speak with that person.
