Mother Killed, Disabled Daughter Critically Injured In Palatine House Fire
UPDATE: 5:08 p.m.
(CBS) --A 63-year-old woman was killed and her disabled daughter critically injured after a house fire in Palatine Friday night, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
When neighbors heard a smoke alarm and saw thick black smoke pouring from the home at 150 South Oak Street, it was already too late, they say. It was just after 8 p.m. and one called and several tried to go to the aid of the woman and her daughter inside.
A man had severe cuts to his leg from kicking out a window. He and his wife had to be hospitalized for injuries sustained trying to get inside.
Other tried as well and said they were pushed back by thick smoke. Firefighters arrived quickly the neighbors said and located the victims suffering from severe burns.
The homeowner, identified as Lois Demos, 63, and her 20-year-old disabled daughter were taken to Northwest Community Hospital. The mother was pronounced dead and her daughter, Lindsay, was airlifted to the burn unit at Loyola where she was in critical condition.

The Palatine Fire Department says the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.
