Mother Charged With Throwing Newborn Baby Out Window In Uptown

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Uptown woman was denied bond Saturday after being charged with murder after police, say, she dropped her newborn daughter from the 8th floor of an apartment building, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

The woman is identified as 19-year-old Mubashra Uddin. Police say she gave birth to a girl on Wednesday night in her eighth floor apartment on the 800 block of West Eastwood and then dropped the baby from a window to a grassy area below.

Someone passing by found the infant and she was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital about a block away where doctors reportedly worked on the infant for some time before she died.

It was initially thought she had been beaten to death. The mother had been hospitalized. She could have walked a block to the hospital and handed the girl over under the state's safe haven law. Now she is charged with first degree murder.
