More Absentee Ballots Counted As Five Aldermanic Races Remain Too Close To Call
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More absentee ballots have been counted in five aldermanic races in Chicago that are still too close to call. WBBM's Mike Krauser has the latest numbers.
In the 16th Ward, Toni Foulkes is holding on to a lead over challenger Stephanie Coleman by 148 votes.
In the 21st Ward, incumbent Howard Brookins is on top of Marvin McNeil with a 286 vote leas.
In the 31st, Milly Santiago leads Ray Suarez by 86 votes.
Incumbent Michele Smith of the 43rd Ward is on top of Caroline Vickery, also by 86 votes.
The tightest content remains the 10th Ward, where challenger Susan Sadlowski Garza holds a 33 vote lead over incumbent Alderman John Pope.
Pope's campaign had a heavy emphasis on absentee votes and that contest could come down to 42 absentee votes that were rejected.
The campaign is challenging the rejections. In one case, the signature was found not to have matched, but Pope's campaign says that is because the voter had a stroke and his signature no longer looks the same.
There are still provisional votes to be counted. April 23 is when it all ends, barring challenges in court.
