'Monster Walking Around Here' After Teen Killed, Another Wounded In Kenwood

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Conflict between two groups left a Chicago teenager dead, and another wounded in the Kenwood neighborhood this weekend.

When the sounds of gunfire ended Saturday night, the sights of police tape and investigators surfaced, and officers patrolled the area of 44th Street and Greenwood Avenue.

Police said two teenagers were outside around 7:30 p.m., when a car drove by, and someone inside started shooting. Tyjuan Poindexter, 14, was shot in the head, and died at the scene. A 15-year-old boy was shot twice in the leg, and was being treated at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

Poindexter's grandfather, Michael Gabb, said he couldn't believe it when he got a call from his wife, telling him the teenager had been killed.

"I feel terrible, real terrible. With everything going on in my mind, I just can't believe it," he said.

Gabb said his grandson recently started attending Wendell Phillips Academy High School.

Police said neither victim had a criminal record, or a history of gang activity.

Gabb said he believes his grandson was tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Somebody knows something, I guarantee that. To whoever did this to my grandson, there's a monster walking around here," Gabb said.

Investigators heard there was some type of altercation between two groups before shots were fired. No one was in custody early Monday.
