Missing Teen Found Dead At Park In Crystal Lake

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities were investigating the apparent suicide of a missing teenager at a park in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

Police were called to Canterbury Park in Crystal Lake around 4:15 p.m. Monday, after a body was discovered with a handgun nearby.

The park sits next to an elementary school, and officers were seen talking to a group of children, who might have witnessed what happened, or discovered the body.

Tuesday morning, it was confirmed the victim was that of an 18-year-old student at Crystal Lake Central High School, who had been reported missing 10 days ago. The McHenry County Coroner's office said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning.

At the time, police said he had been described as despondent, based on posts he made on social media.

When he left his family's home on March 1, authorities said he might have been carrying a gun.

No students at the elementary school next to the park were injured
