Minimum Wage Panel To Hold Public Hearing Monday Evening
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As the City of Seattle starts to raise its minimum wage to $15-an hour, Mayor Emanuel's hand-picked panel is preparing to hold its first public hearing on how Chicago might raise the minimum wage here, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Chicago's Minimum Wage Working Group will hold its first public hearing next Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kennedy-King College.
Co-Chairman Ald. Will Burns says the panel wants to hear from activists and business people from big and small companies. He says Seattle's move to a $15-an-hour wage just helps illustrate that different cities are approaching the issue in different ways.
"Restaurant workers, for example, in some cities don't get the entire minimum wage. In some cities, young people under the age of 21 have a different minimum wage than workers over the age of 21," said Burns.
In fact, he says Seattle's minimum wage is different for different size companies. These are all things to be considered.
