Migrating Sandhill Cranes Swoop Through Chicago

(CBS) -- Sandhill Cranes have been making quite a bit of noise over the Chicago area in recent days.
Images of their gracefully forming majestic patterns, high in the sky, have been captured by people all over the region.
Celeste Troon is the Curator and Director of Living Collections at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago.
She says at one point the birds were near extinction because of hunting and loss of habitat.
"In the 1990's you wouldn't have seen them. They are actually one of the rare success stories of the region," Troon tells CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot. "They're really coming back."
The birds have flown from Canada and are on their way to southern states and Mexico.
