Michigan Avenue Bridge Temporarily Closed After Malfunction
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Vehicles and pedestrians were kept off the Michigan Avenue bridge over the Chicago River for more than an hour on Wednesday, after a locking mechanism failed following a routine bridge lift.
City officials said the bridge was raised for a boat run shortly after 10 a.m., but it failed to lock properly when it was lowered again, forcing the city to bar vehicles and pedestrians from using the bridge.
A Chicago Department of Transportation spokesman said the problem was fixed around 11:30 a.m., and the bridge was reopened to traffic and pedestrians.
