Mexican Christmas Village A Half Century In Making
(CBS) -- A family in Chicago's historic Pullman neighborhood on the far South Side is spending today on a Christmas tradition--the painstaking job of assembling an intricate and elaborate nativity village in their living room.
"It's taken 51 years that we've been married to get it all together," said Marilyn Quiroz.
The couple began accumulating pieces for their Mexican Christmas village more than half a century ago.
Now, they have more than 300 pieces for a scene that takes up a quarter of their living room. Putting it all together, she says, is a labor of love.
"This time of chaos in the world, it sometimes feels a little scary. And putting this village up and sharing it with others reminds us that the holidays are here and what they're all about: love, family and friends."
Her home will be one stop on the Pullman Candlelight Tour this Sunday.
