(CBS) -- A Metra train derailed Friday afternoon as it approached Union Station.

The train derailed about 3 p.m. at Canal Street just north of Union Station at 225 S. Canal St. on the Milwaukee District North line, according to preliminary information from a Metra spokesman.

The train was carrying no passengers and no injuries were reported, according to Metra.

The derailment will likely cause delays on the Milwaukee West, Milwaukee North and North Central lines, Metra said. The Heritage Corridor line could also be affected.

The train was headed into Union Station when it derailed, Metra said.
