Eric Sorensen, meteorologist for a Quad Cities TV station, hired Crawford for his first job in Rockford. He has maintained a close friendship with Crawford and his wife Heather.

Sorensen says there is good news.

"We're hearing he made it through surgery and he's expected to survive. I have not heard the extent of the injuries. A lot of times we in the news business talk about 'non-life-threatening injuries.'

"I don't know if these injuries are something he's going to have to live with for many months or years, but the good news is he's expected to survive."

The Facebook site for Patrick Crawford is full of well wishes for his recovery.
