Merrillville School Closed For Disinfection After Students Contract Swine Flu

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A high school in northwest Indiana was closed Monday, to be disinfected, after two students were diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.

Andrean High School president Harry Vande Velde III said the school was closed "for a thorough cleaning" on Monday.

"Cleaning crews are working diligently to ensure school is ready for classes on Tuesday," he said in an email.

The Lake County Health Department said they were notified that two students at AHS were diagnosed with H1N1, but the students live in Porter County, so the case was turned over to the Porter County Health Department.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal flu, and include a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more, coughing, runny nose, headaches, chills, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
