At least 37 people shot, wounded over Memorial Day weekend in Chicago
At least 37 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago this Memorial Day weekend.
The victims range in age from 14 to 52.

Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend at 8:40 p.m. Friday, a 38-year-old man was driving in his car in the 4100 block of South Karlov Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain. He drove to another location, where paramedics found him and took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was reported in good condition with a gunshot wound to the hand.
At 6:57 p.m. Friday, a 32-year-old man was in the backyard of a home in the 5200 block of South Honore Street when he was shot in the left foot by an unknown person. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
At 8:53 p.m. Friday, two women, ages 31 and 32, were sitting in a gray car in the 700 block of North Avers Avenue when they heard gunshots and felt pain. The younger woman was shot twice each in the chest and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, while the older woman was shot in the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Both were in fair condition.

Shootings from Saturday
- At 10:06 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was standing outside in the 7300 block of South Carpenter Street when two people came up and began shooting at him. The victim was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the lower body. The shooters ran off.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 1:30 a.m., a 51-year-old man was walking outside in the 800 block of North Ridgeway Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm.
- At 2:04 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was standing outside in the 2000 block of West Randolph Street when he heard gunshots and felt pain. He had suffered gunshot wounds throughout his body, and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in serious, but stable condition.
- At 3:02 a.m., officers heard gunfire in the 2500 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, and found four teen victims. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the right buttock, a 16-year-old girl was shot in the left calf, a 14-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the right arm, and another 16-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to the right leg. All four victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- At 1:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man self-transported to Humboldt Park Health with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was in good condition and was uncooperative with police.
- At 3:12 a.m., a 30-year-old man self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital after being shot in the 2200 block of South Keeler Avenue with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was in fair condition.
- At 3:34 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was asleep in a home in the 1000 block of West Thorndale Avenue when gunfire pierced the window and struck him in the ankle. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition.
- At 3:50 a.m., a 19-year-old man was walking through an alley behind the 1100 block of West Roosevelt Road when an armed man pistol-whipped him in the face and then shot him once in the leg. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
- At 3:20 a.m., two men, ages 27 and 29, self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital after being shot at an unknown location. The younger man was shot in the leg and treated and released in good condition, while the older man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was listed in good condition. The victims were uncooperative about specifics.
- At 4:41 a.m., a 25-year-old woman was in a home in the 1400 block of South St. Louis Avenue when she was struck by gunfire that was believed to have come from outside the house. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
- At 6:44 a.m., a 29-year-old woman was in a home in the 600 block of East 131st Street when a man standing outside the residence approached her, took out a gun, and shot her. The victim was shot three times in the leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. The man was taken into police custody.
- At 2 p.m., a 23-year-old man was in a car parked in the 13200 block of South Indiana Avenue when someone came up and shot him. The victim was shot in the right flank and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in fair condition.
- At 8:04 p.m., a 33-year-old man was driving a black sedan in the 1700 block of North Laramie Avenue when a golden car pulled up, and someone inside fired shots at the victim and struck him in the right thigh. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- At 10:39 p.m., a 21-year-old man was driving a black sedan in the 4500 block of South Racine Avenue when a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle pulled up, and someone inside shot the victim in the arm and chest. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
Shootings from Monday
- At 5:54 p.m., two men, ages 28 and 29, exchanged gunfire with someone who came up to them in the 4100 block of West Wilcox Street. Both men were struck and were taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. The younger man was shot in the back, the older man in the foot, and both were reported in good condition.
- At 6:23 p.m., a 47-year-old man was standing near the sidewalk in the 200 block of East 37th Street when two vehicles pulled up, and multiple people got out of one of the vehicles and battered the men. One person in the group then shot the man in the foot, and the group went on to take his property, He self-transported to Insight Hospital and Medical Center, where he was stabilized.
- At 8:16 p.m., a 46-year-old man was shot in the right biceps in the 1500 block of South Racine Avenue. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition. A pair of witnesses came to the Near West District police station and said they had information about the incident, and officers went on to make an arrest.
- At 10 p.m., three teens were injured in a shooting in the 1600 block of East 55th Street in Hyde Park, in the midst of a large teen gathering at the 57th Street Beach. An 18-year-old man was shot in the right hand, a 19-year-old man in the leg, and another 19-year-old man in the right hip. All ended up at the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
- At 10:56 p.m., four people were standing outside in the 4800 block of West Fulton Street when they heard gunshots and felt pain. A 35-year-old man was shot in the back, a 34-year-old woman in the right thigh, a 27-year-old man throughout his body, and a 23-year-old man in the left arm. All were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- At 11:11 p.m., a 27-year-old man was dropped off by a silver car at Stroger Hospital of Cook County. He was shot throughout his body and was listed in good condition. He was uncooperative with police.
- At 11:20 p.m., a 35-year-old man was standing outside in the 1900 block of South Albany Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain. He was shot in the left leg and self-transported to Rush Oak Park Hospital, where he was in good condition.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 2:12 a.m., two men, ages 24 and 52, were having a quarrel in the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue. It turned physical, and the younger man shot the older man in the head. The older man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The younger man was taken into custody.
