McDonald's 'Secret' Menu: Solutions To The Same Old Big Mac

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Are you the type of person who orders the same thing when you go to a certain restaurant?

For example, at McDonald's you always order the No. 3 combo meal.

That's not really a bad thing.

There is a certain logic to it.

You like the No. 3, you know what you are getting, and it's simple.

However, perhaps you are jealous of the more daring, thrill-seeking types.

You want to be more like them, but you just don't know where to start.

Well, Oak Brook-based McDonald's has a "secret menu"!

Actually it's not an actual menu hidden in the corporate kitchen's safe.

Rather, it's a series of meal "hacks" that require a bit of assembly.

Sites like Hack The Menu and Secret Menuholic have all the details.

Here are a few suggestions:

The Root Beer Float

This is simple and very popular.

Some McDonald's outlets will make this for you, if you ask for it.

Otherwise, you can ask for some soft serve ice cream in your root beer. If that is not an option, use Coke.

It's a provocative name for a sandwich that combines meat and poultry into one taste experience.

Probably not a good alternative for the Happy Meal, however.

Order a double cheeseburger and a McChicken sandwich.

Open the double cheeseburger by separating the beef, place the chicken sandwich inside, reattach the top of the double cheese burger.

Enjoy.

This thing is inspired by the KFC Double-Down, and it's no wonder a lot of people are getting so fat.

Ask for three McChickens and a Big Mac.

Set aside the buns.

Then stack as follows: chicken, Big Mac patty with some special sauce/pickles/onion, chicken, remaining beef patty/sauce etc., chicken.

Then eat, and make appointment for triple bypass surgery.

Both Hack The Menu and Secret Menuholic have more suggestions for McDonalds, and several other restaurants.
