McCarthy: No Reason To Think Chicago's In Danger, But Cops Vigilant Following Paris Attacks
(CBS) – Chicago police are in contact with law enforcement partners around the globe but do not believe there's any terrorist threat here connected to Friday's attacks in Paris.
"Currently there is no credible threat or nexus to Chicago. In the interest of public safety, we remain in constant contact with our federal and international partners to evaluate and respond to any changes in intelligence," Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said in a statement issued Friday evening.
Mayor Emanuel condemned the attacks, presumably a coordinated terrorist strike, against Chicago's European sister city.
"Tonight the City of Chicago stands shoulder to shoulder with the City of Paris in the wake of today's despicable and horrifying attacks," the mayor said in a prepared statement.
"For nearly 20 years Chicago and Paris have been sister cities, united by a free and rich exchange of culture. I speak for all Chicago when I say that we are saddened and sickened by what has taken place tonight and our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, and with all of the French people."
