Mayoral Candidates Throw Themselves Into The Home Stretch

(CBS) – The final weekend of Campaign 2015 finds the candidates for Chicago mayor sprinting to Tuesday's finish line.

They're not holding anything back, CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports.

It's crunch time. There is no reason to save ammunition. The candidates are making their best case with their most powerful weapons.

Just hours President Obama flew into town to name a new national landmark here, video of him and incumbent Rahm Emanuel turned up in a campaign commercial.

Opponent Jesus "Chuy" Garcia's ace in the hole, a teachers union video says, are his ties to the late Harold Washington.

After casting his ballot Friday morning, Mayor Emanuel claimed even closer ties to Washington.

Garcia, meanwhile, appeared with Chicago Teachers Union members at a rally supporting unionization of charter school teachers. Emanuel says charter school teachers should decide if they want to unionize.

The CTU is the only major union supporting Garcia, while Emanuel counts most of the building trades and the firefighters in his corner, while the Chicago Federation of Labor, AFSCME and SEIU remain neutral.
