Mayor Emanuel Snaps At Parks Group Over Lucas Museum Stalemate

(CBS) -- Mayor Emanuel -- reacting to the latest move by the Friends of the Parks on the Lucas Museum -- says it's time the group stopped "negotiating among themselves."

In the latest demand from the Friends of the Parks, the organization reportedly wants 5 percent of all revenue from the Lucas Museum to go to neighborhood parks.

In exchange, the organization would drop its objection to the Lucas Museum going where McCormick Place East is now.

Mayor Emanuel has some words for the Friends of the Parks:

"Stop negotiating inside your board, making up differences.  Because George Lucas, right now - while the clock is ticking and the sand is running through the clock … is now in discussions with other cities on the West Coast. And you could cost Chicago a significant educational and economic opportunity."

He didn't elaborate. The mayor made his comments to reporters Monday after speaking at the groundbreaking for Nobu, a hotel and restaurant in which actor Robert De Niro is a partner.
