Mayor Emanuel Meets With State Lawmakers To Discuss His Legislative Priorities

(CBS) -- Ahead of tomorrow's State of the State address by Governor Bruce Rauner, Mayor Rahm Emanuel met with more than a dozen state lawmakers to discuss his administration's legislative agenda and efforts on education and public safety, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Among the legislators having breakfast with Rahm Emanuel: State Representative La Shawn Ford, who sponsored a bill to allow Chicagoans to vote to recall the mayor. Ford says they spoke privately and cordially about that.

"I am sure no one likes a bill that seems to be directly aimed at them, but he understands my position and I understand his position and it's not about him and it's not about me, it's clearly about the people of Chicago," Ford said.
State Senator Heather Steans talked about the general discussion with the mayor.

"There's lots on the agenda that we could be working towards together, which I think is what's needed now," Steans said. "I'm hoping that there's room for negotiations and agreement around things that really matter."

And of course everyone hopes for a budget agreement but few expect one soon.
