Matt Davidson Leaves White Sox Debut With Fractured Foot

By Chris Emma--

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The White Sox debut of Matt Davidson didn't last long.

Davidson was pinch hit for in the sixth inning Thursday, leaving his first game in a White Sox uniform with a right foot fracture. The team initially called his injury soreness and then released the diagnosis after further evaluation. The White Sox are expected to release details on a timetable for a return Friday.

The 25-year-old Davidson hadn't played in the big leagues in three seasons. Finally, he worked his way back and was recalled Thursday.

The third baseman Davidson, who was acquired by the White Sox in 2014, had an RBI single and scored during the bottom of the fourth inning. He was recalled to help add positional depth with Melky Cabrera out three to four days with a right wrist injury. The White Sox optioned reliever Matt Purke back to Triple-A Charlotte.

Davidson was a first-round pick of the Diamondbacks in the 2009 draft and is largely viewed as one of the White Sox's top prospects.
