Masked Gunman Shoots Three Inside Maywood Restaurant

(STMW) -- Three men were shot by a masked gunman as they ate inside a restaurant Friday in west suburban Maywood, officials said.

The shooting happened about 5:45 p.m. at Pumpkin's Place, 1426 S. 5th Ave., according to Maywood Police Officer Pirsia Allen. When officers arrived at the scene they found two men bleeding outside the restaurant, Allen said. A third man was taken to a hospital "by a citizen" before officers arrived, he added.

Each man suffered a single gunshot wound; a 26-year-old was shot in the stomach, the second, 24, was hit in the right arm while the third person, 53, was shot in the right thigh, Allen said.

All three were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in "stable" condition, Allen said. He added that the 53-year-old was taken to the hospital separately "by a citizen."

The shooter, who was wearing a ski mask, opened the restaurant's door and "just started shooting," Allen said.

No one is in custody Friday night as Maywood police investigate.
