Marquette Park Community Offering $10K For Info On 71-Year Old Shot And Robbed

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Marquette Park community announced a $10,000 reward for information on the 71-year old who was shot and robbed last week.

"It's a sad day," said Loisteen Walker, the victim's neighbor "That we have to offer a bounty, for someone to turn someone in, when they know who had committed the crime. A reward will not keep us safe."

71-year-old Fred LaGuardia was watering his neighbor's lawn, Sept. 6 around noon, when two males approached on bikes, demanding LaGuardia's wallet. He refused and one of the men shot him in the stomach and took his wallet from his pocket, WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.

Surveillance video from a neighbor's house showed the whole attack from start to finish.

The community asks people to take a good look at the video and come forward with any information.

Community activist Andrew Holmes said the Marquette Park community has raised additional $8,000 in reward money, on top of $2,000 in reward money announced last week.

"Take a good look at the video," Holmes said. "No matter who he was, turn these two individuals in."

"Change has to come from within the community," said Frederick LaGuardia, son of the victim. "From the many other families like mine, that have been affected by the violence. People who are forced to see it every day."

LaGuardia has been released from the hospital. He is recovering physically.
