Marist High School Student Charged With Facebook Threat Against Teacher

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Marist High School student has been charged with posting a threatening message on Facebook that was directed at one of his teachers.

The high school, at 4200 W. 115th St., contacted police immediately after they were made aware of the student's message on Thursday, according to a statement on Marist's website.

The 16-year-old boy was brought in to the Morgan Park District police station for processing, and charged with making a cyber threat, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He posted a threatening message on social media, which was directed at one of his teachers, police said.

The message had been posted on Facebook, according to the school's statement.

Classes went on as normal Friday at the Mount Greenwood neighborhood campus, after high school officials spoke with the student's family and law enforcement and concluded there was no threat to the school, Marist's statement said.

The high school increased in-school security staff on Friday, and Chicago Police were also present on campus as a precaution.

The boy was released to his parents and will appear in court May 14, police said. His name was not released because he was charged as a juvenile.
