March Weather Madness: Spring Arrives Friday, But Winter Returns Sunday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's Chicago, so it should be no surprise that, even though Spring officially arrives on Friday, Old Man Winter isn't quite done with us yet.

While Friday and Saturday should see temperatures in the 50s, or slightly above normal for this time of year, Sunday and Monday will be much chillier, with conditions more suitable for late February.

Don't worry, there's no chance of snow, it's just that temperatures won't get past the high 30s Sunday or Monday.

Thankfully, Chicago will get a good start to the weekend, with a high of about 55 on Friday, which is about 6 degrees warmer than the average first day of Spring in Chicago, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday will be slightly cooler, with a high of about 53, before temperatures plunge high 20s early Sunday, and then rise no higher than about 39 the rest of the day.

Keep the blankets handy Sunday night, as temperatures again will fall to the high 20s.

Monday will be a repeat of Sunday's wintry conditions, with a high of about 38, and lows down to about 25.

Temperatures will begin returning closer to normal midweek, with a high of 42 on Tuesday, and 50 on Wednesday.
