CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and woman were shot early Friday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The two were driving in a vehicle about 12:25 a.m. in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard when a dark colored SUV pulled alongside them and someone inside opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Police soon found the two inside their vehicle more than a mile away in the 1600 block of South Drake, Greer said.

The man, 28, was shot in the back and buttocks, Greer said. The woman, 25, was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where their conditions had stabilized, Greer said.
