Man, Woman Dead In Woodlawn Murder-Suicide

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and woman were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide Sunday evening in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

A man called police and requested a well-being check at his son's home in the 6500 block of South Kimbark Avenue, police said.

Officers arrived at the home about 6:30 p.m. Sunday and when no one answered a knock at the door, they forced their way inside, police said.

Linda Soto, 25, was discovered lying unresponsive on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. She lived in the 3400 block of Harlem Avenue in Berwyn.

Steven Griffin, 17, was discovered unresponsive lying nearby with a gunshot wound to his mouth, authorities said. He lived at the home.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Griffin's father told investigators that during a phone conversation with his son about 9 p.m. Friday, Griffin told him his girlfriend was having a relationship with her child's father and he was upset, according to a police source.

Soto's child was with the father in west suburban Berwyn at the time of the shooting, police said. He told investigators that he had previously been in a relationship with her for about eight years, police said.

He told police he knew she had dated the man about a year earlier, but did not know if they were still seeing each other.

Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
