Man Wanted For Texas Shooting Arrested In Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man wanted in connection to a Jan. 12 shooting in Texas allegedly fled to Chicago, where he was arrested Friday.

Jaqwa Cheguevera Ross, 18, is accused of shooting of Shelton Thacker, also 18, outside a Super 8 Motel near a pool in the 900 block of North Central Expressway in McKinney, Texas, according to a release from the McKinney Police Department.

Thacker was shot twice in the back, but survived the attack, police said. At the time, he was airlifted in critical condition to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

An arrest warrant was issued Jan. 22, and Ross, who lives in McKinney, was found in Chicago and arrested by authorities from the U.S. Marshals, McKinney and Chicago police departments, according to the release. He was arrested Friday without incident.

Ross was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and he is being held on a $500,000 bond, police said. He was awaiting extradition early Sunday.
