Man Tries To Lure Boys Into Van With Candy

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Parents in the Austin neighborhood have been warned to be on alert, after two child luring attempts less than two weeks apart.

Police said a white van pulled up next to two 9-year-old boys as they were walking home from Howe Elementary School on Monday afternoon, walking south on Lorel Avenue toward Huron Street. A man got out of the van, and said, "Come here, I got some candy for you," while holding candy.

The boys ignored the man, and continued walking, but the van followed them, so they ran home and told their families.

Police said it was similar to another luring attempt on March 19, when a man tried to lure two girls – 9- and 6-year-old sisters – into his van by offering them candy outside Hay Elementary School, at 1018 N. Laramie Av.

The girls told police the man was dressed in all black, wearing sunglasses, and driving a white van.

Anyone with information about either incident should call Area North detectives at 312-744-8266.
