Man Tries To Abduct Girl Walking Home From School In Oak Lawn

(STMW) -- Police have released a sketch of a man who tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl as she walked home from school Tuesday evening in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.

The girl left Richards High School a few minutes before 5 p.m. and was walking south on Central Avenue when a car pulled up and stopped, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

The driver rolled down his window and asked the girl several times to get in the vehicle. He opened the passenger side door at one point, but she told him no, police said.

He drove off northbound on Central, and the girl went home and told her mother what happened, police said. Officers canvassed the area, but the car and driver were not found.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man 25-35 with medium-length hair and fit build. He was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans; and driving a newer model, black, four-door Mercedes with a silver pinstripe across the doors.

No other incidents have been reported, and nearby schools were notified, police said.
