Man Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot After Barricading Himself In Lowden Homes

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man died of suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday afternoon after barricading himself into an apartment in the Lowden Homes development.

Police said a 49-year-old man wanted for attempted murder fled into a residence at 93rd Street and Princeton Avenue when police were trying to make contact with him.

As officers set up a perimeter around the building, they heard a single gunshot, police said.

Officers went inside the home and found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.

A nearby school was put on lockdown while police were setting up the perimeter.

Crime scene tape was seen strung up outside one of the rowhouse buildings in the development.
