Man Struck, Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In West Town Neighborhood

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday afternoon in the West Town neighborhood.

The 33-year-old man was identified as Shane Stokowski, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Stokowski was walking in the 400 block of North Aberdeen Street shortly before 5 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene, authorities said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he died at 5:18 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. His home address was not immediately known.

An autopsy conducted Sunday ruled his death a homicide.

Police said he was struck by a black SUV, but it was not immediately known which direction the driver of the vehicle was headed before or after striking Stokowski, police said.

No one is in custody as the Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigations Unit investigates.
