Man Struck By CTA Purple Line Train In Evanston Dies

(STMW) -- A man struck by the CTA Purple Line train late Friday afternoon in north suburban Evanston has died.

The man jumped from the platform in front of a northbound train at 900 Foster Street at about 4 p.m., according to Evanston police. The incident is being investigated as a suicide.

Police investigators and the Evanston Fire Department are on the scene waiting for heavy equipment to extricate the victim, who is underneath the train, police said. The man has not yet been positively identified but is being described as between 20 and 30 years old.

The area around the Foster Street station is currently inaccessible, police said. Foster Street between Maple and Sherman avenues is also closed, according to the fire department.

CTA Purple Line trains will be stopped while police investigate.

After being temporarily suspended, trains are now moving as of 6:30 p.m. with residual delays between Howard and Lindon.
