Carjacker Confronts 2 Women, Fires Shots In South Loop

(CBS) -- A frightening ordeal for two women who simply were trying to go shopping.

They were in the parking garage at the Target store at Roosevelt and Clark in the South Loop on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say a man drove to the store in a stolen car, but locked himself out.

Then he robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint. When he tried to take that woman's car, the key fob broke, and he couldn't get inside.

Frustrated, the suspect ran to another car where a young mother was buckling her infant into a car seat.

A witness says the suspect threw her to the ground and she screamed her child was in the car. She was able to get her child, and the suspect fired a number of shots.

No injuries were reported.
