Man Shot While Riding In Car On Bishop Ford Freeway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot early Wednesday while riding in a vehicle on the Bishop Ford Freeway on the Far South Side.

Four men were in a vehicle heading south on I-94 near 111th Street about 1:30 a.m. when a black Nissan pulled up alongside and someone fired multiple shots into the driver's side of their vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.

A 22-year-old man sitting in the back left passenger seat was shot in the right hand, police said. The other three men in the car — ages 25, 23 and 31 — were not injured.

The victim was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two of the men in the vehicle are documented gang members, police said.

The black Nissan the shooter was in had front end damage and orange tape on a rear window, police said.

The ramp from Stony Island to southbound I-94 was closed to traffic while Illinois State Police investigated the shooting, but everything was reopened by 3:30 a.m.
