Man Shot Near West Side Elementary School

(STMW) -- A shooting on the West Side prompted a lockdown at an elementary school in the North Lawndale neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the 1600 block of South Avers Avenue at 3 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

He was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Fire Media.

The shooting happened in the street, near William Penn Elementary School at 1616 S. Avers., according to Fire Media. The school was temporarily put on lockdown, but the lockdown has been lifted as of 3:35 p.m.

Police could not immediately provide information on the shooting.
