Man Shot Near Truman College
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot in the head Tuesday morning across the street from Truman College in Uptown.
Police said someone in a black 4-door sedan heading west on the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue opened fire around 10 a.m. - apparently aiming at another vehicle - and ended up hitting a 21-year-old man on the street. Police said the man was not the target.
The victim is a fire extinguisher delivery man.
The Fire Department said he was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
The man who was shot works for the Martin Mack Fire and Safety Equipment Company. President Dan Marks tells WBBM: "We're as distraught as anyone else."
The apparent intended victim of the shooting ran into a cellphone store nearby.
"They probably meant to shoot him but he was lucky he was in the passenger so as soon as they left he was shaking asking my to call 911," said Shadi Hannani, the store owner.
A restaurant worker huddled outside in fear.
"I was just in the car on my phone and I just heard the gunshots and I looked up and I saw people surrounding the vehicle but stayed in the car," said witness Dominique Gray.
Police said no one is in custody. They're looking for a black 4-door sedan.
