Man Shot During Robbery Near Navy Pier

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 22-year-old man was shot early Saturday near Navy Pier during a 'so-called' robbery.

Police said after review of physical evidence and surveillance, the victim who said he was shot and robbed near Navy Pier actually shot himself.

The initial report stated, around 2:20 a.m. a man was walking down the street, on the 600 block of East Illinois, when another man approached him with a gun and demanded money. The victim refused to comply and was shot in the leg.

A Navy Pier spokesman said the incident happened at Lake Point Tower.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Area Central is still investigating.
