Man Shot During Robbery Attempt In Englewood

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot during an attempted robbery early Friday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

The man, 25, was standing outside in the 5600 block of South Morgan Street shortly after 2 a.m. when four males, one of whom had a gun, approached him and tried to rob him, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

A fight broke out, and the gunman shot the man in the leg during the struggle, Greer said. The four suspects then ran away without any proceeds from the attempted robbery.

The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition, Greer said.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
