Man Shot And Killed In Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. (STMW) -- Police are investigating a possibly narcotics-involved shooting that led to the death of a man in northwest Indiana on Wednesday.

The shooting happened about 4:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of Magoun Avenue in Hammond., Ind., according to police and the Lake County Coroner's office.

The victim's fiancee called police and said he had been shot several times in a room he was leasing at that address, police said. The man suffered three gunshot wounds.

Police said the shooting is thought to be related to narcotics trafficking.

The man — whose name and age were not released early Thursday pending notification of relatives — was pronounced dead at Munster Community Hospital at 6:40 p.m., according to the coroner's office.

No one is in custody early Thursday. Hammond police are investigating.
