Man Shot And Killed In Gary

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man who was shot to death Tuesday night in northwest Indiana may not have been the intended target, police said.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3600 block of Van Buren Street in Gary at 8:44 p.m. and found a man who'd been shot at least once in his upper body, according to a statement from Gary police.

Therical Gassion, 45, was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, where he was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., according to the Lake County (Ind.) coroner's office.

His cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide.

No one was in custody as of Wednesday morning, and it is not yet known if Gassion was the intended target of the shooter, police said.
