CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 22-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday night in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

The man was shot in the back about 8:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Ingleside Avenue, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in "grave" condition and later pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

His name and home address were not released early Friday pending family notification.

Ciara Brown lives near where the shooting occurred and said she heard 12 shots before coming outside and seeing police activity. Brown, 21, added that three people had been shot in near her backyard about three weeks earlier on Aug. 13.

In that incident, 21-year-old Larry Johnson shot two men and a woman about 9:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Ingleside, according to police. Johnson was charged Aug. 18 for the shooting and is being held without bond, authorities said.
