Man Shot And Killed By Chicago Police Officer In Greater Grand Crossing
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly pointed a gun at him Thursday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Around 11:30 p.m., police got a call about a man with a gun in the 7500 block of South Langley Avenue.
Chicago Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said officers were told a man was wearing a leather Chicago Blackhawks cap.
When officers arrived, they saw a group of people, including a man matching the suspect's description. The officers they tried to stop him for questioning, but he allegedly tried to flee the scene, but an officer grabbed him, and he allegedly reached in his waistband, and started to pull out a gun, according to Chicago Police Deputy Chief Carlos Velez.
An officer shot the man, and then, once on the ground, while wounded, the man allegedly pointed his gun at the officer, who shot him again.
The man died before he arrived at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has not yet released his name.
The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the shooting.
