Man Sentenced To 85 Years For 2008 Sexual Assault

CHICAGO (AP) -- Cook County prosecutors say a Chicago man has been sentenced to 85 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint more than six years ago.

Twenty-five-year-old Byron Edwards was sentenced on Thursday. He'd been convicted by a jury on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and sexual assault for the November 2008 attack.

Authorities say Edwards abducted the woman at gunpoint in front of her home as she was getting into her car to go to work. Edwards forced the woman to drive to a nearby alley, where he robbed and sexually assaulted her.

Edwards was not arrested until 2010, when a sample of his DNA was recovered from a vehicle he was convicted of stealing. It matched the DNA collected after the woman's assault two years earlier.
