Man robbed at gunpoint while walking in downtown Chicago

CPD search for 6 suspects in Loop armed robbery

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago police are searching for six people involved wanted in an armed robbery in the Loop Tuesday night.

It happened at 9:00 Tuesday night near State and Van Buren.

Chicago police said a 23-year-old was robbed at gunpoint underneath the tracks of the Purple Line at Van Buren.

He was approached by five men and one woman.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and demanded belongings from the 23-year-old. He handed over his belongings but it's unclear what all he had.

The six then took off, heading northbound.

Police said the 23-year-old was the only victim; however, at the scene, police were talking to three people. It's unclear if they're all involved.

CBS 2 spoke to a Columbia College student who lives just blocks away and frequents this area both during the day and at night.

"It's not been great recently. There's a lot of guys that hang out at the park, and usually, they don't bother me. It gets a little sketchy, especially when it's cold because no one is out," said Columbia College student Emma Harris. "And there's no one to see you. and I often get off work around 10. so when I walk home, it's a little weird,"

She said on occasions when she gets off late or doesn't feel safe, she uses the Columbia College shuttle to get from point A to point b.

As for this incident, Chicago police said no one is in custody.
