Bartender dies after falling into Diversey Harbor

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man is dead following a water rescue from Diversey Harbor early Wednesday morning. 

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the 43-year-old man slipped and fell into the harbor, near 2601 N. Cannon Dr. just after 5 a.m. 

Chicago police said the man, later identified as Luis Alberto Davila Vera by Medical Examiner's Office, was with several people at the time of the incident when he fell into the water and did not resurface.  

CFD and CPD Marine Unit responded to the scene and pulled the victim from the water. 

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. 

Vera also went by the name Michael Mix and worked as a bartender at Republic Night Club. 

According to a GoFundMe, a ceremony will be held in Chicago and he will be transported to Mexico after. 

So far, it has raised over $25,000.
