Man Killed, 19 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) -- One man was killed and at least 19 other people--including a 16-year-old girl--have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.

A man was shot to death Friday afternoon in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 4:40 p.m., 19-year-old Johnny Coria was walking in the 3000 block of South Kedvale when someone walked up and opened fire, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Coria, whose home address was not immediately known, was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m., a spokesman for the medical examiner's officer said.

A 16-year-old girl was seriously wounded in a shooting late Friday on the South Side.

She was shot in the buttocks in the 3500 block of South Rhodes about 9:45 p.m. and taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Most recently, a man and a 17-year-old boy were shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, 19, and the boy were in the 3500 block of West Lexington at 12:08 p.m. when they heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

The boy was shot in the right thigh, and the man was shot twice in his left arm, police said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

At least 16 other people have been wounded in seven separate shootings across the city since 4:40 p.m. Friday.
