Man, Juvenile Charged With Fatally Beating Romeville Man

(CBS) – Police have charged a man and a juvenile in connection with the beating death of a 55-year-old Romeoville man over the weekend.

Richard Pollack approached a group early Sunday to inquire if they had stolen his son's skateboard, Romeoville police said. Members of that group, which included teens, were carrying baseball bats, police said.

The victim, who was found outside his home in critical condition around 2 a.m. Sunday, later died at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

Police say they were responding to a fight involving at least nine people over an unreported break-in to a vehicle. Romeoville authorities have said the confrontation stemmed from allegations that someone had stolen a skateboard belonging to Pollack's son.

Charged with first-degree murder are Mark A. Ballard of Romeoville, 42, and a 15-year-old suspect, Romeoville police said. Bond was set at $5 million and $1 million respectively.
