Man Gets 55 Years For Fatal Shooting Last Year In West Garfield Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for a fatal shooting that happened last year in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Alexander Scott, 31, was found guilty of first-degree murder on Feb. 12 after a bench trial before Judge Charles Burns, according to Cook County court records.

Scott confronted 25-year-old Eric Woods at Woods' home in the 900 block of South Springfield Avenue and shot him in the chest on Feb. 27, 2014, authorities said at the time. Woods died at 5:02 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Scott was arrested later that day at his home in the 2200 block of North Campbell Avenue, authorities said.

Judge Burns sentenced Scott to 55 years in prison during a hearing Monday, according to court records. He will receive credit for 635 days served in the Cook County Jail, where he has been held without bond since his arrest.
