Man Found Shot To Death In Roseland

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man found dead Friday afternoon in the basement of his Roseland home on the South Side was shot in the face, an autopsy found.

Police found Cleotha Brooks, 53, with "head trauma" at his home in the 0-100 block of East 104th Place, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. He was pronounced dead there at 2:45 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

An autopsy Saturday found Brooks died from a gunshot wound to the face, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Police were initially conducting a death investigation but said Monday morning that Area South detectives are now classifying it as a homicide, News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
