Man Found Near Tracks In West Chatham Was Fatally Struck By Train

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train Saturday afternoon in the West Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, an autopsy has determined.

Officers responded at 12:53 p.m. and found 38-year-old Derrick Sutton unresponsive on the tracks near the 8700 block of South Holland, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Sutton, whose home address was not known, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Sunday revealed he died of multiple injuries he suffered when he was struck by a train. His death was ruled an accident.

Additonal information on the incident was not immediately available. Area South detectives were conducting a death investigation.
